TAMPA, Fla. — There are new charges for the man accused in a hit-and-run crash into a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy.

According to the sheriff’s office, the crash happened July 5 when a driver in a black BMW fled a traffic stop. Deputy Kalin Hall attempted to pull the car over a second time on Plantation Oaks Drive.

That’s when the driver rammed into Deputy Hall.

Authorities have identified the driver as William Lewis, 24. He is now facing charges for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, possession of cannabis more than 20 grams, leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury, reckless driving with serious bodily injury, aggravated fleeing to elude serious bodily injury or death, fleeing to elude a police officer.

Investigators said Lewis ran over Hall during the traffic stop and then left the scene.

Lewis' mother, friend and girlfriend are also facing a variety of charges connected to the case.

Hall needed surgery after the incident. He suffered a broken leg and fractured ankle.
