Josh’s fascination with the weather goes back to his childhood. He points to a pair of hurricanes that affected his hometown on New York's Long Island that would help shape his future profession. In 1985, the island took a direct hit from Hurricane Gloria, leaving his family without power for 10 days. Later in 1991, Hurricane Bob passed to the east of Long Island, bringing plenty of wind and rain to the island on its way to landfall in New England.
A graduate of the State University of New York in Albany, Josh holds a Bachelor of Science degree in atmospheric science and has the Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society. He also earned the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal in 1998.
Josh's career in forecasting the weather began with a job at WNYT in Albany, NY. In May 1998, Josh left WNYT for a new challenge forecasting the weather in the volatile conditions of Tornado Alley at KGAN in Cedar Rapids, IA. Josh's time in eastern Iowa led him on the adventure of a lifetime.
While working on a story about storm chasers, he encountered 14 separate tornadoes, two of which were rated EF3 or higher. Josh remembers one instance of actually being chased by a tornado.
Josh came to the Bay area in March 2001 and started watching hurricanes again as a member of Bay News 9's Weather on the Nines team of meteorologists.
Josh and his wife have three kids, all of whom grew up in the Tampa Bay Area. His oldest son went to FSU, his middle daughter left Florida for college, and his youngest has a few more years before leaving the nest.
Josh is active in the community, attending and emceeing many charity events throughout the years. He has a love for animals and has three dogs and a cat and has been known to acquire additional pets at the request of his children.
