St. John’s Episcopal Parish Day School, on the 200 block of Plant Avenue, is expanding its campus from one to two acres.

Second through eighth graders will take classes at the new school. A second campus is being renovated for younger students.

“This is really about taking the school into the future,” said Head of School Hugh Jebson.

Jebson said the new academic village will uplift students as well as the entire neighborhood.

“What you’re going to see here with this Master Plan is a complete regeneration of this block,” said Jebson. “It’s the introduction of new facilities, new learning space and the development of an area that’s been really in many ways underdeveloped but has been highly visible in the area.”

Karen Bersch has two children who attend St. John’s Episcopal Parish Day School. She is thrilled about the upcoming changes.

“You got to keep up with what’s new, the best technology and keeping everything fresh for the kids and staying up to date,” Bersch said.

Administrators are in the planning stages. They will take their plans to Tampa City Council for approval in the fall.

They hope to break ground by 2020.
