TAMPA, Fla. — Doctors work to save lives but some even go above and beyond to help people.

Dr. Jason Fields is an addiction specialist who also is president of Balance Tampa Bay, an LGBTQA volunteer organization.
"It (Balance Tampa Bay) was created by a group of folks who wanted to provide a social venue for LGBTQA folks in the community," Fields said. "And who are interested in promoting philanthropy and service in the community."
The organization holds events throughout the year.
In the spring, there's a Kickball for Kids tournament. Also, the group raising money all year long to give funds to a local children's organization.
A major fundraiser is the annual masquerade ball, co-sponsored by EPIC (Empath Partners in Care), which provides care and support to people in the Bay area dealing with chronic and advanced illness.
"(That fundraiser) helps them raise money for all that they do in the community for folks living with HIV and AIDS and helping fund a lot of the services that they give to those folks," Fields said.
Feeding the Bay area's homeless is also on the group's agenda.
And, come the holidays, the focus turns to the children.
The group's "Party for Presents" gathered more than 2,000 gifts last Christmas for children that might have gone without last year.
Fields feels strongly about Balance Tampa Bay's mission and its message.
"We are part of the community," he said. "We want to say that we are here in the community and want to give back to teh community."
