Hernando County Fire Rescue now has their own boat to assist with calls on the water.

Here are five things to know about the new boat:

-Before, first responders had to rely on other government vessels or even private boats to get to the scene. 

-Having their own boat will allow response times to improve.

-The boat allows first responders to travel on any body of water in the county. 

-It wouldn't have been possible without Firehouse Subs, which donated the money to purchase the boat. 

-All Station 6 personnel in Hernando Beach are trained to use the boat.
