On Wednesday, Sarasota County Commissioners voted unanimously to open their beaches on Monday, with restrictions.
“It's a challenging time because I think everyone is a little cooped up and a little stir crazy,” said Commissioner Christian Ziegler, District 2.
In order to avoid large crowds, they are limiting beach access to recreational use only.
“Get some exercise, it’s always good for your mental health,” said Commissioner Nancy Detert, District 3.
This means visitors will be welcome to walk, run, swim and surf, but you’re not allowed to bring chairs and coolers to hang out.
Public parking will remain closed.
However, commissioners expect to open the lot in the coming weeks.
“There are a lot of citizens that pay for that beach that live inland that don’t have that direct access,” said Ziegler.
Visitors will still have to follow CDC guidelines and stay six feet apart.
