ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- A pop-up testing site will open at the Frank Pierce Rec Center in Bartlett Park at 8 a.m. Saturday.

  • Pop-up testing site at Frank Pierce Rec Center
  • Site open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The idea is to bring testing to underserved communities in the city.

This is a partnership between the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County and the City of St. Petersburg.

They did a similar test site at Childs Park earlier this week. They said 80 people showed up.

Officials said these areas have a lot of folks who may not have had easy access to tests.

"We decided to do a pop-up here in St. Petersburg because we know how important it is to reach out to the African-American community and let them know about COVID tests that is conveniently to the neighborhoods surrounding these parks where we had our first pop-up," Director of Urban Affairs Nikki Gaskin-Capehert said.

City and state officials reached out  to community leaders to help spread the word.

Today's pop-up is from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
