CLEARWATER, Fla. — Fifteen-year-old Laura and 16-year-old Sam Kopec are sisters, best friends and founders of 'Feeding the Fosters'.
A few years ago they started cooking for the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranch Cottage, being taught from a young age the value of service through volunteering.
“I noticed a small boy who was stuffing rolls into his pocket, for fear he might go hungry during the day. It really broke my heart,” Sam said.
As a non-profit they currently serve over 20 families, with over 160 meals a night.
Support from the community, including financially, is key.
“We have a lot of community events with restaurants and businesses. They support us and we support them,” Laura explained.
With the holidays approaching, it is a very busy time.
“We have a whole room in the back of our house that literally looks like Santa’s workshop right now. We’re providing almost one hundred foster children with their gifts from Santa this year,” Sam added.
These two Everyday Heroes say it’s the little things that make it all worthwhile.
“One of the best feelings in when the kids run up to you and hug you and it feels like everything is right in the world.”
“It’s really a great experience. No matter how old you are, or anything, you can still make a difference even in a small way.”
