TAMPA, Fla. -- Violent crimes involving guns have reached its highest point in recent years, Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan confirms.

Tampa Police have responded to 23 homicides and 230 non-fatal shootings in the city since January 1, 2021. At the same time last year, the city had logged 14 homicides.
There's been 98 guns stolen in the city of Tampa so far this year and the majority of them, according to Dugan, were taken during car burglaries.
"The only real correlation is that those guns aren't stored properly," Dugan said. "The fact we have so many guns stolen out there."
In all, the city has reported 369 crimes involving guns in 2021.

A group of parents who lost their sons to recent gun violence have created a group called 'Rise Up for Peace'. They are holding two walks to show support for families who have experienced loss from gun violence and to help prevent it in the future. Everyone is invited to join them.
