CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — Due to all the heavy rainfall Citrus County has received over the past few days, some areas on the west side of the county currently have roads covered with standing water, according to the Citrus County Sheriff.

At this time, there are not any existing road closures but the sheriff’s office is advising motorists not to drive through areas of standing water, especially if the depth is unknown.

Six inches of water is enough to hit the bottom of most passenger cars, flooding the exhaust and leaving drivers immobile.

The sheriff’s office is urging drivers to try to take an alternate route if possible. Wet roads can cause compromised drivability that increases the risk of accidents. In the event you must drive through standing water, do proceed slowly with caution.

Deputies are reporting the following roadways with standing water:

  • Homosassa Trail (from Rock Crusher to U. S. 19)

  • West Emerald Oaks Dr., Crystal River (near Seven Rivers Hospital)

  • West Fishbowl Drive, Homosassa

  • West Ozello Trail, Crystal River

  • West Country Club Dr., Homosassa
