A Polk County elementary school is mourning a teacher who has died from COVID-19.

Kelly Peterson, a teacher at Lake Shipp Elementary, died Monday according to a Facebook post from the school. A family member confirmed on social media that COVID was the cause of death.

"She has touched hundreds of students' lives and had made a lasting impression on us all. Her Lake Shipp family will dearly miss that contagious smile and laugh she always had," the post said.

Memorial arrangements are being planned.
