So far the farm has rabbits, a pig and a turkey named Fred who basically runs the place.
Baby goats and chickens are also on the nearly five acres of property for the farm.
The city’s farm started as a vision from late councilwoman Patti Johnson before her death in 2020.
Johnson’s daughter Patti Reed says her mom made her promise to make sure the farm project happened and she told her to run for her seat on city council.
Reed ran and won that seat. And she made sure the farm became a reality.
“This is the first time I got to talk about it,” Councilwoman Reed said. “My whole life, I’m a retired police officer, so my whole life has been giving back and public service. My mom’s whole life was public service from the time she was a single mom. So we’ve always tried to develop things for kids for the future.”
The park is on 94th Avenue just to the right of Helen Howarth Park. Tours will be available to the public along with an event space, educational opportunities and a garden that will provide a farm to table experience. The city will release more information this summer about volunteer opportunities and hours of operation.
