PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A Gulf High School staff member is facing charges after officials say she aided a minor after a gun incident earlier this week.

According to New Port Richey police, officers responded to calls of shots fired near Van Buren and Main Street Monday at 4 p.m.

An investigation determined that juvenile males were involved in purchasing illegal firearms.

Authorities said one of the juveniles involved attended Gulf High School and contacted a school disciplinary aid staff member following the incident.

Officials said that staff member picked up the juvenile and drove him away from the shooting scene. It was discovered that the staff member hid the firearms at her residence so the juvenile male could not be criminally charged.

Police said she took possession of two handguns, ammunition and a backpack. All of the items were recovered from her residence.

Pasco County School Board officials were notified of the incident.

The staff member was arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and tampering with evidence.

Additional charges may be pending.
