TAMPA, Fla. — Children and families who are struggling to afford food will be able to get free meals through the Summer Break Spot program that launched this week and will run through August 4.
The federally-funded program aims to close the hunger gap by providing nutritious food at no cost to children under 18 while school is out and operates at various schools, nonprofit organizations and government entities such as parks and libraries.
Kids do not need an application to take part in the Summer Break Spot program: they can just come to any of the participating locations during breakfast, lunch and dinner, according to the organization.
There are three ways to find a Summer Break Spot location:
- View an interactive map on their website
- Dial 2-1-1
- Text “FOOD” or “COMIDA” to 304-304
Program officials said participating sites are added daily, so if you cannot find a location near you, continue to keep checking back.
