TAMPA, Fla. — Delays are continuing at a new par 3 golf course that was scheduled to open last fall at Rogers Park Golf Course in Tampa.

The course is now expected to open by this fall and promises to challenge all levels of players.

What You Need To Know

Executive Director of First Tee of Tampa Bay Ian Baxter said rains from Hurricane Ian last year washed away seeds that had already been planted, then winter hit. Cooler temperatures generally slow down the growth of new grass.

“It just needs time,” said Baxter. "I mean, some things no matter what you do, you need Mother Nature to kind of do its work.”

Only a few stubborn, patchy areas remain where crews are still trying to grow grass.

Rogers Park is hoping for rain and warmer temperatures starting to set in will be the final ingredient the course needs to open.

“The work crew here with the Tampa Sports Authority, they are working hard every dayy,” Baxter said. "We are going over all the small details, big details. It's coming along really nicely. Just the natural growth of, you know, having the rains of the summer and the grass filling in. We are expected to open in the fall with that schedule.”

The FirstTee of Tampa Bay will enjoy priority on the new course, however, it will also be open to the public.

A tee time schedule will be available later this year once the course opens.
