ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rays plan to celebrate two of the most iconic moments in franchise history with statues outside Tropicana Field.
Prior to the Sept. 23 game against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Rays will unveil statues featuring Evan Longoria and Akinori Iwamura before they are installed in permanent locations outside the stadium.
Iwamura recorded the final put-out of the 2008 ALCS that sent the Rays to the World Series. Longoria hit a walk-off home run in the final game of the 2011 season to clinch a wild-card spot for the team.
Two replica statues will be available to all fans while supplies last.
The Rays also announced that former outfielder Carl Crawford will join the team's Hall of Fame on Aug. 26. He will join Wade Boggs and the late Don Zimmer.
