HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Westbound Interstate 4 reopened in Seffner Friday morning after an earlier multi-vehicle crash that was caused by a wrong-way driver.
The crash happened just before 3:45 a.m. near north Kingsway Road.
The lanes between McIntosh Road and I-75 were closed until about 8:30 a.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the wrong-way vehicle crashed into a westbound Mercedes sedan traveling in the inside lane at Mile Marker 12.
A pickup traveling westbound in the center lane braked to avoid the collision and was struck in the rear by a flat-bed truck. This collision caused the pickup to rotate onto the outside shoulder where it collided with a parked tractor-trailer.
The flat-bed truck overturned, trapping the driver.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, 22-year-old Arda Sengun, was arrested for DUI with serious bodily injury.
Three other drivers were transported to area hospitals, including the driver of the overturned truck, who was trapped in the vehicle for 90 minutes. That driver was transported via helicopter. All of the drivers are expected to recover.
The lanes were closed as emergency crews worked the scene and cleaned up debris. The roadway was blocked for several hours.
