TAMPA, Fla. — The 22-year-old suspect in last weekend’s fatal Ybor City shootings will remain behind bars for now.

Tyrell Phillips made a brief appearance in court Thursday for a hearing. He will stay in jail until there’s a motion filed for a new court date.

He spoke briefly when the judge asked if Phillips was in agreement with the continuance of the hearing not knowing when this will be reset.

A public defender representing Phillips told the judge he plans to file paperwork on Friday at the latest. Once that happens, a court date will be set for the pre-trial hearing.

At that pre-trial hearing prosecutors will argue why Phillips should remain behind bars with no bond.

Phillips is facing second degree murder charges. He made his first appearance in court on Monday.

Tampa police said 14-year-old Elijah Wilson and 20-year-old Harrison Boonstoppel died in the gunfire, which broke out after several individuals engaged in arguments on 7th Avenue just before 3 a.m. Sunday.

Another 16 people suffered injuries in the gunfire and ensuing chaos.
