BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — Law enforcement announced multiple arrests Thursday in the February murder of Isabella Scavelli, 17.

They said the teen was the victim of a murder-for-hire plot, lead by a man she reported for sexual assault just one day before.

  • Authorities said 17-year-old Isabella Scavalli was killed in February after reporting a man for sexual assault

  • Lenard White, the man Isabella reported, is accused of paying another man $10,000 to kill her

“This murder was senseless, a violent crime that must be answered for, and today is a huge step in that direction,” said Kirk Howard, special agent in charge of the ATF’s Tampa Field Division.

Sheriff Al Nienhuis didn’t identify Scavelli during a news conference, but the Hernando County School District previously confirmed that she was the victim in the February 7 murder.

Nienhuis said she came to the sheriff’s office the day before with a relative to report she’d been sexually battered by Lenard White, 36.

The sheriff said an investigation found White paid Sheldon Robinson $10,000 to kill Isabella. He said Robinson, 21, then turned to social media, offering $5,000 and cocaine to anyone who would help him with what he called a “clean-up job.”

“A clean-up job for $10,000, especially when you’re showing a large sum of money and cocaine is probably not going to be cleaning somebody’s house,” Nienhuis said.

That’s how authorities said documented gang member Keyshawn Woods, 22, ended up going with Robinson to Scavelli’s house. They reportedly shot her and a family member at their home at 11:30 p.m.

The relative survived.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, 17-year-old Isabella Angelina Scavelli was shot and killed Feb. 7 when two people were shot near Hazel Ave. and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in South Brooksville at 11:30 p.m. (Photo courtesy Hernando County Schools)

“She was shot four times,” Roger Handberg, US Attorney for the Middle District of Florida, said of Scavelli’s shooting. “The bullet that caused her death entered her lower left back area, suggesting that she was shot in the back as she was trying to run.”

Woods’ mother, Janet Williams, also faces federal charges for allegedly making false statements to an ATF agent.

Nienhuis said this was a case detectives took personally.

“We have every reason to believe that she was not engaged in any high-risk activity,” he said of Scavelli. “She was a good kid with a very bright future, and to see her life cut short is heart wrenching, to say the least.”

If found guilty, White, Robinson, and Woods face life in federal prison. Williams could spend 15 years in federal prison if convicted.
