TAMPA, Fla. — Two sisters got a glimpse of tradition during the Gasparilla Children's Parade on Saturday.
It's all thanks to their grandmother, Diann Greene, a member of the Krewe of Pandora.
The Tampa tradition calls for costuming, and Greene has just the right outfits for 9-year-old Haven and 7-year-old Paityn.
“So we are going to be wearing a goddess outfit—a Greek Goddess outfit,” said Haven.
School taught Haven about Greek people and their “Gods.”
“And they would think they are real,” said Haven.
Now this little Krewe goes from human to God with flowing robes and capes for the cold.
For Greene, the whole upcoming scene, it’s better than real.
“It’s almost magical- it’s music, it’s beads, it’s crowds, it’s dancing. It’s just exciting,” she said.
And Paityn is ready for a new experience.
“Last time when I went to Gasparilla, I wasn’t on the float. I was the ones who were catching the beads—not throwing them,” said Paityn, “I’ll be excited- excited and I’ll be so happy.”
Greene says it’s hard to explain what the massive crowds feel like when approaching the beginning of the parade.
“Coming down Bayshore, we hit Bay-to-Bay and all of a sudden, it’s just a sea of people, and it’s just breathtaking,” she explains. “It’s just like almost shocking and exciting, and I just can’t wait for them to experience that.”
