TAMPA, Fla. — When veterans move into permanent housing, there are a lot of different programs to help them get settled in with furniture, clothing and more.
However, when it comes to collecting pictures to hang on the wall, those are less common.
Program Manager for Warm My Walls at Seniors in Service Pam Plager said the pictures collected will go to 25 veterans who recently moved to permanent housing.
“You look around your home and you’ve got pictures and things that warm your heart and make you feel so special, we need this for the veterans too because nothing on the walls makes a very cold home,” she said.
Plager said they’re used to providing clothing and furniture to veterans, but she noticed the walls are typically empty.
One person donating pictures is Kitty Anderson. She said she’s donating pictures so veterans can feel more comfortable in their new homes.
“I love to see the look on their face when they get stuff like this,” Anderson said. “It’s just that they are so appreciative.”
Anderson said this isn’t the first time she’s given pictures like this to veterans, but it is the first time through Warm My Walls as it’s the first year of the program.
Anderson is hopeful that she will be one of dozens of people who donate pictures before the last collection day.
“The smile that’s going to be on their faces when they receive these pictures, it’s just warm,” Anderson said.
Those interested in donating to the program can drop by Seniors in Service at 1306 W. Sligh Ave., Tampa, FL, 33604 by May 3.
