After dealing with several weeks of high temperatures and no rain, the Bay area is getting it all at once.

Heavy rain on Tuesday left some areas dealing with minor flooding and also affected air travel.

As of 5 p.m., about 5.5 inches of rain had fallen over a 12-hour period in Tarpon Springs. Palm Harbor saw 5 inches, with Holiday receiving 5.3 inches and Dunedin 2.3.

Further north, Elfers had 2.9 inches of rain, while New Port Richey saw 1.3 over a 12-hour period.

More rain totals include:

  • Tampa 1.58
  • Crystal River 1.87
  • Brooksville 0.90
  • Clearwater 0.70
  • St. Pete 0.33
  • Bradenton 1.17

In Pasco County, deputies blocked off part of Bonita Road in Hudson because of flooding.

Water was beginning to recede on the roadway at 5 p.m. but drivers were still urged to use caution in the area.

The rain did play a role in helping fight a brush fire that flared up last week in east Polk County.

The Florida Forest Service said the River Ranch complex fire is 90% contained in one section and 75% in another. At one point, the fire spread throughout 4,500 acres.

FORECAST FOR REST OF WEEK

A stationary front will sit over Florida for the next few days, bringing daily showers and storms.

It may not rain all day, but it will be for longer than your typical rainy season pop-up thunderstorms.

The highest rainfall totals will be south of Tampa Bay, as the tropical moisture will be greatest south of the front.
