Delays were also being reported at St. Pete International Airport and at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport.
In Orlando, conditions were more stable, with only a small number of delays at Orlando International Airport.
A stationary front will sit over Florida for the next few days, bringing daily showers and storms, so delays could happen again in the coming days.
The highest rainfall totals will be south of Tampa Bay as the tropical moisture will be greatest south of the front.
