TAMPA — The popular Flugtag event, previously held in Tampa in 2008 and 2011, is returning to the area.

The Red Bull Flugtag will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, outside the Tampa Convention Center. The announcement was made at the center on Monday.

The previous events drew about 100,000 to the convention center basin to watch teams take to the skies in their handcrafted flying machines.

“We’re incredibly excited to welcome the Red Bull Flugtag back to Tampa, along with the 100,000 spectators it will bring,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “We can’t wait to watch these daring pilots take flight, or maybe more accurately, take a plunge, right outside the Tampa Convention Center. It's going to be an epic day, and most importantly, an economic boost of over $3 million to our city. It’s a win-win.”

The event is free to attend, with some of the best viewing areas available along the Tampa Riverwalk.
