PALMETTO, Fla. — The Palmetto Gun Show returned to Manatee County this weekend with more than 200 vendors selling firearms, ammo, safes and more.

What You Need To Know

  • More than 200 vendors selling firearms, ammo and more are in Palmetto for a gun show this weekend

  • It comes shortly after a new U.S. law requires firearm dealers to run background checks on buyers at gun shows

  • Robert Geisler, the General Manager of Florida Gun Shows, says the law does not affect them much due to policies they've already implemented

  • The Palmetto Gun Show wraps up Sunday at 5:00 p.m.

Robert Geisler, the General Manager of Florida Gun Shows, has been in this industry for more than 20 years.

He said they want to create a safe place for everyone who comes.

"For the last ten years ... if you're selling a firearm on your table, you're going to be federally licensed," said Geisler.

The show arrives not long after a new U.S. law requiring firearm dealers to run background checks on buyers at gun shows.

The goal is to stop unlicensed dealers, who don’t perform background checks, and make sure the buyer is allowed to buy a gun.

Geisler said because of the way they've operated for so long, it doesn't change much for them.

"It's no different than going into Bass Pro or Shoot Straight and buying a pistol or rifle," he said. "Everybody has to undergo a background check. We thought it was the right thing to do. It's the law in the stores and it just makes sense for a safer environment."

The Palmetto Gun Show wrapped up Sunday with the next stop in Orlando.

Multiple states, including Florida, have filed lawsuits against the Biden administration's rule on background checks.

They argue it violates the Second Amendment.
