TAMPA, Fla. — The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has confirmed a death after a 20-foot vessel hit a barge near the Howard Frankland Bridge.

The incident happened at about 4:15 a.m. Wednesday. FWC, the Tampa Police Department and the U.S. Coast Guard all responded to the scene.

Two people were on board the vessel, and one fell into the water. The body has been recovered, FWC said Wednesday afternoon.

The second person was taken to a hospital for treatment.

"All members of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission would like to express our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the victim," FWC officials said in a statement.

The incident remains under investigation. No names have been released.
