TAMPA, Fla. — As Tampa Bay braces for the upcoming storm, evacuation shelters will be open to help residents stay safe.

Citrus County

A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for Evacuation Zone A in Citrus County which includes:

  • All low-lying areas west of U.S. Highway 19 and some areas additional areas east of U.S. Highway 19

A voluntary evacuation order is in place for all other areas.

Citrus County's Citizen Information Line (352-249-2775) is open until 12 a.m. Sunday.

Hillsborough County

A shelter will be open to those with special needs as well as the general population, and is pet friendly. Shelter-goers with pets need to bring a sturdy carrier for each pet that allows room for the pet to stand and move around, as well as a collar with a leash and supplies for each pet.

Hernando County

Voluntary Evacuations will be issued for Evacuation Zone A beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday. All residents living in coastal and low-lying areas, as well as manufactured homes county wide, are included. Residents are advised to seek shelter with family or friends that reside in a safe structure. If this is not a possibility, a public shelter will open at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the below address.

(Please note- Eat a meal before traveling to the shelter. No meal will be provided tonight, however, breakfast will be served in the morning.)

*If you are needing the Special Needs Shelter and have a pet, transportation from either your house or shelter location for your pet is done through Animal Control with Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. Please call Hernando County Public Information Center (PIC) at 352-754-4083 to arrange pick up. The PIC is open.

Manatee County

Manatee County Emergency Management is encouraging evacuation for those in Coastal Level A. You can determine your evacuation level by visiting mymanatee.org/storm.

“Tropical Depression Four could impact our coastal communities,” said Jodie Fiske, Director of Public Safety. “We are opening an additional shelter for those residents and visitors in Coastal Level A.”

Miller Elementary School (601 43rd St W, Bradenton, FL 34209) will open at 5:00 p.m. for those who wish to evacuate from Coastal Level A. Nolan Middle School (6615 Greenbrook Blvd, Bradenton, FL 34202) opened at noon today.

Residents and visitors in Coastal Evacuation Level A should unplug and move electric golf carts and vehicles out of garages and Level A areas to avoid the risk of fire due to saltwater intrusion.

Pasco County

Pasco County has issued a voluntary evacuation for certain areas of Pasco County as severe weather heads toward the Gulf Coast. Life-threatening storm surge and tropical storm force winds are expected to impact the area this weekend.  

You should evacuate if one or more of the following applies to you:

  • You live in Evacuation Zone A 
  • You live in a manufactured home, mobile home or RV anywhere in Pasco 
  • You live in a low-lying area or an area prone to flooding 
  • You live in a structure that historically has experienced flooding during heavy rainfall 
  • You’re registered with Pasco as a Special Needs Resident 
  • You would be vulnerable in the event of a power loss 
Pasco County will be opening the following shelter:
  • Fasano Regional Hurricane Center

    Open Aug. 3 at 6 p.m.
    The shelter will be open to those with special needs as well as the general population.
