TAMPA, Fla. — A Florida Highway Patrol trooper who was knocked down during the final play of the Buccaneers-Falcons game on Sunday suffered a broken ankle, according to FHP Sergeant Steve Gaskins.

The trooper, who was not identified, was hit in the back during a scramble for the Bucs' Hail Mary pass as time expired.

Immediately after the play, Atlanta Falcons cornerback Mike Hughes could be seen trying to help the trooper back up, with the trooper struggling to hold his own weight.

Gaskins released this statement following the game:

"The FHP Member struck on the final play of the game today between the Bucs and the Falcons has suffered a broken ankle. The FHP thanks the Falcon player that initially rendered aid to our member following the play."
