ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – St. Petersburg police are investigating the death of a 1-year-old child that was found in a vehicle on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said officers responded to the parking lot of the Kindercare Bayfront Child Development Center, 800 6th Ave. S., just after 5 p.m.

Detectives learned that when the father went to pick-up the child at the daycare, they told him the child had not attended that day. Shortly afterward, the child was later found unresponsive in the back of the car.

He had been there all day, officials said.

Police have not released any further information.

An investigation is ongoing to determine if any charges will be filed.
