Cold weather shelters will be opening in the Bay area as temperatures are expected to drop.

We have posted county-by-county information below and will add new entries as we get them.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY

Hillsborough County’s cold weather shelters program will be activated until Jan. 9 and will take in people until they reach capacity. 

Metropolitan Ministries will be supplying a limited number of single-night motel vouchers on a first-come, first-served basis for families with minor children. You will be required to pre-register to get the motel vouchers by calling (813) 209-1176. Phone lines will be open Monday, Jan. 6, until 5 p.m.

CITRUS COUNTY

In Homosassa, the Nature Coast Church on S. Suncoast Blvd, will be opening from 6 p.m. - 7 a.m. If you are in need of transportation, Citrus County transit will provide transportation to the shelter at no cost. More information...

PASCO COUNTY

Shelter for those without housing available Tuesday night

As extremely cold air moves into our area, Pasco County is opening a Cold Weather Shelter Tuesday, January 7.  Anyone needing a warm place to spend the night can head to the Shady Hills Mission Chapel in Spring Hill.  The shelter will open at 6 p.m. Tuesday and closes Wednesday at 10 a.m.

The extreme cold expected this weekend could be dangerous to anyone who will be outside for long periods of time.  Children, the elderly and pets are especially vulnerable to the cold, and extra care should be taken to protect them.

PINELLAS COUNTY

Pinellas County will activate their cold weather shelters starting January 7th. 

Through a partnership with the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA), bus rides to and from Cold Night Shelters will be free from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. during the activation. Riders must tell PSTA drivers that they are going to a Pinellas Cold Night Shelter when boarding to ride fare-free.  If clients are being denied fare-free rides, they can ask the drivers to contact PSTA dispatch.

  • Guests are accepted until the shelter is full.

  • All sites provide a warm place to sleep, and many sites also serve a meal.

  • Guests will be advised if the shelter will be open on additional nights as conditions warrant. 

SARASOTA COUNTY

Sarasota County Emergency Management will provide cold weather shelters for those individuals in need. Dinner, snacks and breakfast will be provided by All Faiths Food Bank. NOTE: You should bring your own sleeping materials.

100 Church – Monday and Tuesday

MANATEE COUNTY

Cold weather shelter will open Tuesday, Jan. 7 at the Salvation Army, at 1204 14th Street West in Bradenton. Opens at 6 p.m.
