Florida's Presidential Preference Primary is today.

But the coronavirus is changing where and how people vote in the Florida Primary election.

Some voting precincts have moved.

A big reason for precinct changes comes as officials want to limit the amount of people in any one location while voting happens, especially moving polls from senior communities to protect them.

Pinellas County has had to change more than a couple dozen precinct locations.

That's the most changes in Tampa Bay.

Some of the other changes happening are when people arrive to vote.

Secrecy sleeves will not be handed out automatically, only upon a voter's request.

Supervisors of elections officials are also encouraging voters to bring their own black or blue ink pens.

To vote, all you need is to be a resident of Florida, a United States citizen who is at least 18 years of age, and a Florida-approved picture ID:

  • Florida driver's license
  • Florida identification card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles
  • United States passport
  • Military identification
  • Student identification
  • Retirement center identification
  • Neighborhood association identification
  • Public assistance identification

Also, since Florida is a closed primary state, you can only vote in the presidential preference primary if you are a member of the political party that is having a primary: so Democrats can only vote in the Democratic primary, Republicans in the Republican primary (and yes, there is a Republican presidential primary in Florida).
