Metropolitan Ministries’ food warehouse is “critically low” and may soon go empty without help from the community.

The organization said in a release that stocking food centers and helping families who are struggling is becoming more difficult because of shortages.

Vendors and partners of Metro Ministries have been delaying orders, unable to fulfill them.

Justine Burke says they're on track to be out of food by Wednesday in the Metro Markets. Donations are also down 25%.

She says some of the big food orders they placed a while ago have been cancelled and others have been delayed.

“We have faith that between community donations and food purchases, this setback will be resolved. Until then, we are preparing for the situation to get worse before it gets better,” said James Dunbar, associate vice president of outreach and prevention services.

Metropolitan Ministries is now asking the community for more nonperishable food donations.

Specifically, they need canned meat, peanut butter, boxed cereal, canned vegetables, canned fruit, rice, beans, pasta/sauce, soup, baby food and formula.

Donations can be made online at www.metromin.org
