1. Ocala woman found guilty of manslaughter in neighbor's 2023 shooting death
The jury deliberated Friday after closing arguments wrapped up in the trial of Susan Lorincz of Ocala, who faces charges of manslaughter in the death of her neighbor Ajike “Aj” Owens.

2. U.S.-Mexico border apprehensions fall to lowest level since 2020
Apprehensions at the U.S.-Mexico border saw a significant decline last month, falling to the lowest level in nearly four years.

3. Poll finds higher voter enthusiasm since Harris became the nominee
Democrats and Republicans are both more likely to vote for their respective favored candidates in November’s election by Vice President Kamala Harris replacing President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee, according to the latest American Identity Poll from Ipsos and Syracuse University’s Institute for Democracy, Journalism & Citizenship released today.

Your Notes for Tonight and Tomorrow

  • TRAFFIC NOTES: Crews tonight will start rolling closures on the Selmon Extension and Gandy Boulevard. This is for maintenance work happening between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Drivers may see roadblocks for up to 15 minutes at a time. The work will be under way every night through Tuesday. In St. Pete, the I-375 westbound ramp from 5th Avenue will close Sunday night, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers will be routed around using 16th Street and 4th Avenue.
  • LIGHTNING SINGLE-GAME TICKETS: The Tampa Bay Lightning announced that single-game tickets for the 2024-25 season are now on sale. For the Lightning's full regular season schedule, click here.

  • TAMPA BAY SUN TO DEBUT: The Tampa Bay Sun football club will take the pitch for the first game of its inaugural season this weekend. The Tampa Bay Sun is the Bay area’s first professional women’s soccer team and will compete in the USL Super League. For more information, check our report from this morning

  • BEACH WATER ADVISORY: The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County has issued a water quality advisory for Ben T Davis Beach, 7740 W Courtney Campbell Causeway in Tampa, and for Davis Island Beach, 900 Martinique Ave. in Tampa. DOH advises against any water-related activities at the locations due to an increased risk of illness in swimmers. For more information, click here.
