1. Uhuru members found guilty in federal conspiracy trial
Four members of the St. Petersburg-based Uhuru Movement have been found guilty of conspiracy to act as Russian agents. Three of the four members facing charges were found not guilty of acting as foreign agents.

2. Trinity Cafe's Busch Boulevard location closing at end of month
Feeding Tampa Bay's Trinity Cafe on Busch Boulevard will close at the end of September. The cafe has served hot meals with dignity and respect to hungry residents for the past eight years.

3. Universal Orlando to expand CityWalk store with dedicated areas to 'Harry Potter,' 'Super Nintendo World' in 2025
Universal Orlando will expand its Universal Studios Store in Universal CityWalk to include two new dedicated areas featuring “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” and “Super Nintendo World,” officials announced today.

4. U.S. filings for unemployment benefits inch up slightly but remain historically low
Slightly more Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week, but layoffs remain at historically low levels despite two years of elevated interest rates.

5. Thousands in the dark as Hurricane Francine strikes Louisiana
Hurricane Francine slammed into the Louisiana coast yesterday evening as a dangerous Category 2 storm that knocked out electricity to more than a quarter-million customers and threatened widespread flooding as it sent a potentially deadly storm surge rushing inland along the Gulf Coast.

7. A 4.7 magnitude earthquake rattles the Los Angeles area
A 4.7 magnitude earthquake rattled the Los Angeles area this morning, unleashing boulders onto a Malibu road, visibly shaking Santa Monica's 1909 wooden pier and jolting some people from bed. No injuries or damages were immediately reported.

  • RAYS VISIT CLEVELAND: The Tampa Bay Rays, coming off being swept by the Philadelphia Phillies in a three-game series, resume their road trip against the Cleveland Guardians. Heading into this four-game series, the Rays have slipped to 71-75 and are seven games behind in the wild-card standings and 13 games out of the AL East lead. Ryan Pepiot gets the start, looking for his ninth win of the season. First pitch is at 7:15 p.m.
  • TAMPA TRAFFIC ALERT: Starting Friday, Sept. 13 at 9 p.m., the eastbound entrance and exit I-4 ramps at County Line Road will close until Monday, Sept. 16 at 5 a.m. weather permitting. Eastbound I-4 motorists needing to access County Line Road will have to exit the interstate using Exit 22, proceed south onto Park Road, turn east onto South Frontage Road, and continue east toward County Line Road.   • UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA REBRAND: The University of Tampa is now calling itself "UTampa." Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg, president of the University of Tampa, said one of her priorities is to increase the University’s reputation as a model of higher education, making the University a household name, nationally and internationally. That includes calling the University of Tampa “UTampa” instead of “UT.”

  • IMAGINE MUSEUM SENIOR NIGHT: The Imagine Museum is offering seniors aged 65 and over $5 admission to explore contemporary glass art. Guests can enjoy $10 off every $50 spent in the Museum Store and discounted group tours at $7.50 per person.

  • Conservator appointment hearing for Cher's attempt to establish a conservatorship over her son Elijah Blue Allman, following a filing by the singer that claimed that Allman was 'unable to manage his assets due to severe mental health and substance abuse issues'. Allman is expected to receive assets from the trust of his late father Gregg Allman by the end of year.
