1. School cell phone ban proposal passes first committee in Tallahassee
A bill that would test out completely banning cell phones from Florida schools has now passed through its first committee in Tallahassee.
2. Scammers pose as vendors, steal $800k from Citrus County schools
Investigators are working to uncover a cyber fraud that scammed more than $800,000 from the Citrus County School Board.
3. It's Election Day across Polk County municipalities
Municipalities across the county are holding elections today. Residents will cast ballots in a number of races including city council and commission seats to mayoral spots and charter amendments. Polls close at 7 p.m.
4. Federal prosecutors to seek death penalty for Luigi Mangione in UnitedHealthcare CEO's killing
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said today that she has directed prosecutors to seek the death penalty against Luigi Mangione, the man accused of gunning down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, following through on the president’s campaign promise to vigorously pursue capital punishment.
5. All-female city council makes history in Gulfport
Gulfport is set to swear in its first all-female city council at City Hall today.
6. Hooters restaurant chain filing for bankruptcy protection
Hooters is filing for bankruptcy protection. But the chicken wing mainstay restaurant founded in Clearwater in 1983 is not vanishing.
7. Disney World’s ‘Blizzard Beach,’ ‘Typhoon Lagoon’ to both be open this summer
Guests can make a splash at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon next month. The last time both Disney World’s water parks and its theme parks were open simultaneously was in 2019, officials said. Attractions Insider has more.

- PASCO MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS POLLING LOCATIONS | Brian E. Corley, Supervisor of Elections said Tuesday that the following temporary change in polling locations is in effect only for the April 8th Municipal Election. New Port Richey voters in precinct 50 will vote with precinct 25 at the New Port Richey Recreation Center at 6630 Van Buren Street. The city of Port Richey will vote at their regularly assigned polling place. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for qualified voters. Get additional information on the municipal election by visiting the Pasco County Supervisor of Elections website.
- LIGHTNING VS. ISLANDERS | Coming off of a 5-3 win against the New York Islanders last Saturday, the Tampa Bay Lightning head to UBS Arena for game 2. Tampa Bay is 43-25-5 overall and 16-17-3 on the road. The teams square off Tuesday for the third time this season. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
- PINELLAS ROAD CLOSURE | On Wednesday, April 2 and Thursday, April 3, access at East Curlew Place from Alt 19 (Pinellas Avenue) is closing nightly from 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., weather permitting. Motorists will have to detour around the work zone using Lillian Avenue and Klosterman Road. These road closures are part of the Alt US 19 repaving project from Tampa Road to Meres Boulevard in Pinellas County.
- WATER CONSERVATION MONTH | April is Water Conservation Month and to recognize the commemoration, the city of St. Petersburg is offering utility customers a free sprinkler system evaluation through the city's Sensible Sprinkling Program.
