1. St. Pete city council votes to approve funding for new Tropicana Field roof
St. Petersburg City Council has approved funding to fix the hurricane-damaged roof at Tropicana Field. The council voted 7-1 to approve $22.5 million in funding to repair the stadium’s torn-off roof.

2. Colorado State University is calling for above normal activity this hurricane season
Researchers at Colorado State University released their 2025 Atlantic hurricane season forecast this morning, calling for above normal activity.

3. Dow drops 1,600 as U.S. stocks lead worldwide sell-off after Trump's tariffs cause a COVID-like shock
Financial markets around the world reeled following President Donald Trump's latest and most severe set of tariffs, and the U.S. stock market took the worst of it.

4. Senators introduce bipartisan bill for Congress to oversee tariffs
The Trade Review Act of 2025 would command the president to notify lawmakers of any new tariffs within 48 hours of them being imposed.

5. FWC to open Alligator Super Hunt applications next month
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is opening an Alligator Super Hunt between Aug. 15 and Dec. 31.

6. Pentagon's watchdog to review Hegseth's use of Signal app to convey plans for Houthi strike
The Pentagon's acting inspector general announced today that he would review Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's use of the Signal messaging app to convey plans for a military strike against Houthi militants in Yemen.

7. Bruce Springsteen to release 7 albums of unreleased songs, 'Tracks ll: The Lost Albums'
The Boss will release seven new studio albums, titled "Tracks II: The Lost Albums," on June 27. It will contain material written and re-recorded between 1983 and 2018.

  • LIGHTNING VS. SENATORS | After sweeping the New York Islanders in a two-game series, the Tampa Bay Lightning visit the Ottawa Senators in hopes of keeping their four-game win streak alive. The teams square off Thursday for the fourth time this season. The Lightning won 5-1 in the previous matchup. The puck drops at 7 p.m.

  • PINELLAS DISASTER ASSISTANCE | Small local businesses impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton can now apply for funding from the City of St. Petersburg's Small Business Disaster Assistance Program. Applicants must be a business based in St. Pete — nonprofit, brick and mortar, home-based, and businesses operating out of shared commercial spaces. They must also have no more than 50 full-time and part-time employees and be in operation since Sept 15, 2024. Learn more on the city of St. Petersburg's website

  • CLEARWATER BUSINESS SURVEY | The city of Clearwater invites local businesses to participate in a newly launched business survey aimed at strengthening Clearwater's business environment and workforce. The survey will collect key data on workforce trends, operational challenges, and business needs, allowing the city to better understand how it can assist businesses in sustaining and growing their operations. All businesses operating in Clearwater, regardless of size or industry, are encouraged to participate. The survey is available online and will remain open until May 5.

Beckham is an eighth generation Cedar Key native and uses fallen trees from Hurricane Helene as some of her pieces.
