  • Sheridann Lawrence is one of two dozen veterans who picked pictures to hang in their apartments

  • Sheridann picked out several and hung them up with the help of a designer

  • Extra pictures will be given to veterans at a similiar event in the future

Lawrence was one of two dozen veterans picking pictures to hang in his apartment.

“It’s gone from bare walls (in his apartment),” he said. “Now I got pictures.”

Lawrence has only been living in the apartment for a few months after living in a shelter for nearly a year.

When he arrived, there was no furniture, pictures, or even a mattress.

“I got so much insight when I moved in and I was sleeping on the floor,” he said. “I couldn’t complain because I was warm.”

Seeing the pictures hung up, he’s amazed by how lively his apartment feels.

Lawrence said the kindness he’s seen not just from volunteers the day he got the pictures, but everyone who’s helped him stabilize his life, are amazing people.

“Almost 64 years old, I’m like a little kid in a candy store,” he said.

The organization that collected the pictures, Seniors in Service, said the extra pictures will be given away at a similar event in the future.
