TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa police have made an arrest in the April murder of a 14-year-old.
In a news release Thursday, police said 15-year-old Jahmir Moore is in custody.
On April 17, officers responded to reports of gunfire near the 1400 block of W. Busch Boulevard.
They found Jevario Buie near the railroad tracks. He died at the scene.
Surveillance video from nearby residences revealed that Buie, Moore and a third person were walking together that afternoon.
"At 3:33 p.m., Moore and Buie were observed on video walking northbound on N Rome Ave towards a dead end near the scene," the news release stated. "Moore was the last person known to have been with Buie minutes before the murder happened."
After an investigation that included social media messages, detectives connected Moore to the murder.
Moore has been charged with one felony count of first-degree murder and one count of tampering with evidence, among other charges.
“The loss of a child, especially in such a tragic manner, is unfathomable,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “I am incredibly appreciative of our detectives' hard work that led to this arrest, but most importantly brought closure for Jevario’s mother and his family.”
